Royal Navy – Engineering Apprenticeships
The Royal Navy offers a range of apprenticeships that offer practical on the job training with study. A future in the Naval Service is as specialist as it is unique, whether you choose to work on a ship, submarine, in a shore base or an air station. This is where personal development meets professional. You’ll go to places you’ve never been, experience things you wouldn’t anywhere else, and develop skills you don’t even know you have yet. Your study will be paid for, you will earn a salary and travel the world.
There are three main schemes; rating roles (Intermediate Apprenticeships), Accelerated Apprenticeships (Fast Track) and the Undergraduate Apprenticeship Scheme (UGAS)
Accelerated Apprenticeships (Fast Track)
If you’re interested in an engineering career and studied at college, gaining a Level 3 Diploma or A-levels in Maths and Physics, you could be eligible for the Accelerated Apprenticeship Scheme.You’ll start as a rating at Leading Hand , that’s two ranks higher than most Engineering Technicians , building on your existing knowledge and earning ¬£31,000 from day one. The Undergraduate Apprenticeship Scheme (UGAS)
If you’re planning to study engineering at university, you could be eligible for one of the world’s most respected apprenticeships , and get your degree paid for by the Royal Navy.
The Undergraduate Apprenticeship Scheme (UGAS) is exclusively for the Submarine Service, where the most elite engineers work on everything from cutting-edge sonar to nuclear reactors. You’ll join as a Leading Hand before being fast tracked to Petty Officer, getting paid up to ¬£45,000 and an additional ¬£5,000 when you receive your Dolphins, at the same time as studying for a BEng (Hons) in Electronic or Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
You will need a minimum of 48 UCAS points from qualifications (such as BTEC and A-levels) in Mathematics, Science or Engineering to be eligible.
