Jones Day – Legal Apprenticeships
Jones Day is a global law firm and offer a legal apprenticeship in their london office. They offer a 2 year Paralegal Apprenticeship which carries with it the opportunity to progress to a further 5 year (degree incorporating) Solicitor Apprenticeship. So, during your first 2 years as a Paralegal Apprentice, you obtain an excellent understanding of the work of a lawyer in a global, commercial law firm before you commit to the further 5 year Solicitor Apprenticeship.
Earn & Learn
You will mix academic learning, at BPP University Law School (one day a week), with ‘on the job’ learning at their offices within the legal teams (four days a week), with a view to achieving a Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Services as well as the Paralegal Apprenticeship. Jones Day will sponsor and support your study and pay you a regular weekly wage for your work at the Firm.
Progression
If you successfully achieve both the Paralegal Apprenticeship and Certificate of Higher Education, they anticipate you will enter a further 5 year, degree-incorporating, Solicitor Apprenticeship which will enable you to continue working at Jones Day, within the apprenticeship framework, whilst studying for an LLB Hons Law Degree as well as the two-part Solicitors’ final centralized assessment , the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examination (SQE).
What will you do?
Modelled on the Firm’s distinctive ‘non-rotational’graduate training scheme, you will have the opportunity to work with all of the legal groups (including: Real Estate, Global Disputes, Company/Commercial, Banking and Restructuring) during the entire Apprenticeship period.
To begin with, you will undertake legal administrative tasks such as file opening, document production, archiving and billing. But once you have a good understanding of the clients and the work performed by the team you will progress to legal based tasks such as assisting with research, and with legal forms and documents, drafting letters and emails. Your legal tasks, responsibilities and abilities will increase incrementally if you continue onto the Solicitor Apprenticeship.
Entry Qualifications
You need AAB at A Level to apply and 5 GCSEs at Grade B or above. You will study and work in London throughout your apprenticeship programme. They are a global law firm with offices around the world staffed by locally qualified lawyers in each jurisdiction. Lawyers in the London office work with lawyers and clients all over the world so opportunities for travel abroad may arise on specific transactions and/or to meet international clients and colleagues as your responsibilities and experience develop in the final 2 years of the Solicitor Apprenticeship.
