You can join the fire and rescue service once you are 18 years old. Recruitment is via each individual fire station. They recruit when they need fire fighters. There are no formal qualifications required to become a firefighter. However you do need to pass a series of written and aptitude tests. Becoming a firefighter does not come easily. You may spend months and years applying and getting yourself prepared to gain entry.
