There are a number of university course options whereby you combine studying for a degree whilst working for a particular company or even get sponsored through university. If you know what career you wish to pursue, these are an attractive option as they provide funding for your degree, work experience, often an ongoing salary and a guaranteed graduate role at the end. If you are concerned about student debt this maybe an option you wish to consider. Also, you will find them less competitive at this early stage to get into to, compared to obtaining a gradute role with the same employer after your degree, when the competition will be alot tougher.

Banking: Bank of America Degree Apprenticeships

bankofBank of America offers a Degree Apprenticeship Programme. You will split your time between studying for a bachelors or master’s degree and a professional qualification while earning a salary and gaining relevant experience. Your tuition fees will be paid for by the bank. When you join, you’ll be part of a cohort focused on a specific line of business and supported by industry experts in their field. This is your chance to develop the skills and knowledge required to be successful in a variety of roles within the banking industry.

You will be taught key skills such as: planning and prioritization, leadership and communication; and technical skills. 

Positions exist in Bromley and Chester. 

Banking: Barclays Higher Apprenticeship Degree Programme

barclaysBarclays Higher Apprenticeship Degree Programme: they offer a Higher Apprenticeship in leadership and management. This is a 3 year programme and you will gain a BA in Leadership and magaement at the end. You require 200 UCAS points in A-Level or equivalent, in any subject, either achieved or predicted or a minimum of at least 18 months’ work experience. In your first year, alongside your university studies, you’ll take on a series of front-line roles in areas such as customer service or financial control. From here, you’ll move into an Assistant Management role, where you’ll get your first taste of leadership. By your third year, you’ll be ready to lead a team of up to 15 people.

Throughout the three years, you’ll study for a BA (Hons) in Management and Leadership – a qualification designed in partnership with the Lord Ashcroft International Business School. Barclays will provide 100% of the funding for your studies, and your tutors and academic mentors will provide support from start to finish. You’ll also complete a range of work placements, chosen to give you the broadest skills and experience possible

Banking: Lloyds Banking Group: Scholars Programme

It comprises a a complete package of financial support, paid internships, a business mentor and the opportunity to develop your employability skills. You are eligible to apply if you have a household income of less than £25,000 per annum and are due to start as a first year in one the following 8 universities: Oxford, UCL, Warwick, Edinburgh, Bristol, Bath, Birmingham and Sheffield. Business Management: Nielsen Degree Apprenticeship

nielsenNielsen is a world-leading provider of market information, data, measurement and intelligence. They study consumers in more than 100 countries, giving clients the most complete view of trends worldwide. They offer a level 6 degree apprenticeship in business maagement based in Oxford. 

This degree-level apprenticeship will earn you a BA Hons Degree in Chartered Management from Oxford Brookes. The degree will focus on the theory behind a range of business functions, such as Marketing, Finance and Strategic Management. As an apprentice, you will work full time at Nielsen’s UK Head Office in Oxford, with allocated days to attend university and study time within working hours.

 In order to gain an understanding of the business, and to utilise your skill set, you will have 3 yearly rotations throughout the business. The course duration will be 3 years with a combination of multiple choice exams, coursework, presentations, dissertation and an end point assessment.


In order to be eligible to apply for this apprenticeship, you must have or be predicted to achieve 2 A Levels A-C in any subject or a BTEC with Distinction, Merit, Merit (or equivalent). You must also have a Level 2/GCSE qualification in both Maths and English.

They look for individuals with plenty of drive, passion and self-motivation that can bring a new way of thinking to a team. You’ll need excellent communication and teamwork skills and be able to organise a varied workload.


Careers at Sea: Merchant Navy

careersatseaThe Merchant Navy is the name given to the UK's commercial shipping industry. It is made up of shipping companies that own and manage a wide range of different types and sizes of ships. To become a merchant seafarer in the UK you need to undergo specialist training to achieve professional seafaring certification and educational qualifications. This takes place at sea, on board shipping companies' vessels, and in specialist colleges and universities throughout the UK. All programmes are sponsored, with course fees paid, living costs and other allowances provided.

The main jobs include:
  • Officers: Navigations (deck), engineering and electro technical officers
  • Ratings: support staff who assist officers
  • Hotel & Catering, Hospitality & Support Services. On passenger ferries, cruise liners and super yachts. 
There are also other opportunities ashore. Many shipping companies manage their own ships and control all aspects of ship operations. There are also ship management companies that look after ships on behalf of the owners and carry out all of the management and control functions for them. Ship management activities cover: fleet op[erations, logistics, general operations, marine operations and engineering operations. 

The main entry route for Officer Training is the 3 year Foundation Degree-based programme (or Professional Diploma in Scotland), which is 'A' level /Highers entry and requires 120 UCAS points in unspecified 'A' levels/Highers. You will also be expected to have good grades in GCSE or Standard grades English, Maths, Physics/Combined Science. However there is also the HNC/HND route which requires GCSE Grades A-C/Scottish Standard grades at levels 1-3 in English, Maths, a Science based subject and at least one other subject.

You apply direct to the companies, who sponsor Trainee Officers for the duration of the training course. These include shipping companies, training organsations and scholarship organisations. You can apply at any point throughout the year and there are usually two intakes a year, usually between August and January.

Civil Engineering: ICE Quest Scholarships

icelogoThe Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) have a scholarship programme for undergraduates called Quest. QUEST offers scholarships of up to £2,500 per year to students about to start an ICE accredited civil engineering degree in the UK. The majority of scholarships are sponsored by civil engineering and construction companies, QUEST scholars are matched with a company, who they work with during the summer holidays, under the expectation that after graduation they’ll join them full time.

The scholarship is well known and respected within the civil engineering industry and offers great opportunities to top civil engineering students including:

  • Financial support of £2,500 each year
  • Paid work placements every summer
  • Potential full time employment with a leading civil engineering or construction company after graduation
  • Gaining knowledge and experience that will give you a head start in becoming a professionally qualified civil engineer

Your commitment
QUEST scholars are expected to work for a minimum of 8 weeks with their sponsor company each year during the summer holidays. Sponsor companies invest significant amounts of time, money and expertise in scholars, who are expected to join their sponsor company after graduation. Scholars who do not join their sponsor company may be required to return some of the sponsorship money.

Commercial: Airbus Undergraduate Apprenticeships

airbusAirbus offers 2 commercial undergraduate apprenticeships focussed on either finance or business support and industrialisation. They are both 3 year sponsored degree programmes which combine academic study with on the job experience. The roles are based in Broughton, N Wales. They are available within Airbus, Airbus Helicopters and Airbus Defence and Space. 

Finance: The finance apprenticeship leads to a degree equivalent accredition and professional accreditation with CIMA. You need 3 A levels at grade B or above and 6 GCSEs at grade C or above to apply. 

Business Support & Industrialisation: You will work towards a BA in leadership and management as well as a professional qualification with ILM. You will work in various business areas such as industrial planning and lean management. To apply you require 2 A Levels at grade B or above and 6 GCSEs at grade C or above. 

Construction: BAM Day-Release Trainee Scheme

bamlogoBAM  specialise in construction, property development, design, services engineering, facilities management and plant hire. BAM operates day-release schemes with educational institutions throughout the UK. Typically you are a recent school / college leaver with a strong academic track record. You'll take part in a structured training programme while continuing your university or college course on a day-release basis. The programme is designed to give you a broad appreciation of the whole construction process. BAM will pay your university fees and pay you a salary.  You need to apply online. BAM are looking for motivated and ambitious individuals who are either studying for or planning to study for a construction–related qualification. They also consider graduates from a non– cognate background with transferable skills.

Construction: Barrett Foundation Degree Programme

barrattBarrett is one of Britain’s largest and best known homebuilders. They have collaborated with Sheffield Hallam University to offer a bespoke Foundation Degree which provides the opportunity for you to develop the qualities and skills you’ll need for a career in the house-building industry. You’ll join as Trainee Assistant Site Manager, giving you hands-on experience from day one. You’ll attend 4 x 1-week teaching blocks at Sheffield Hallam University each year; achieving the CIOB accredited Foundation Degree after three years, with the option to top-up to a full BSc (Hons) Degree in Construction over a further 18 months. The programme starts with an induction in November each year, with teaching at Sheffield Hallam commencing in January.

The course focuses on the principles of house-building; skills and knowledge of residential construction techniques and their practical use including the legal and contractual areas of construction which are further developed in the work place, enabling you to gain a sound technical and academic education to further your career in the housebuilding industry. Alongside the CIOB accredited Foundation Degree, you’ll take up the role of Trainee Assistant Site Manager where you’ll develop an ability to co-ordinate trades, direct labour and materials in order to meet a highly challenging schedule on time, and within budget. After the first two years you will be appointed as an Assistant Site Manager, assuming you are performing well. As well as the hands on experience that you’ll gain in your role as Trainee Assistant Site Manager you’ll also undertake mini-rotations in the following departments; Technical, Surveying and Buying.

In order to qualify, you will typically need one A-level and four GCSE Grade C or above including Maths and English, or one of the following:

• BTEC national certificate or diploma in building, construction or civil engineering
• Advanced diploma in construction or built environment
• Other access or foundation course qualifications

Construction: Costain Sponsored Student

costainCostain offer a sponsored student prgramme. It includes a bursary payment for each academic year of study, support with your dissertation and a graduate offer pending good performance. They offer sponsored student placements – both summer placements and longer-term industrial placements as part of the Programme. The summer work placements last between 8-12 weeks. During your industrial placement period (6 -12 months), you’ll have a chance to work across a range of exciting projects across the UK. All placements are paid on a monthly basis and you may receive additional support for relocation.

Construction: Kier Foundation Degree Programme

kierKier is a leading construction, development and building company. The Kier Foundation Degree Programme is a partnership between Kier and Sheffield Hallam University. You'll attend four one-week blocks of residential study at Sheffield Hallam University, and consolidate this with work-based learning assignments. if you enjoy your studies and finish the course with flying colours they'll encourage you to go on for a further 18 months to complete a BSc Honours degree. Both programmes are CIOB and RICS accredited, leading you on to professional membership as your career progresses.

The programme is designed to develop your knowledge and skills in areas that will help you get the most out of your career with Kier. As well as construction specific modules, you'll work on building capabilities in communication, problem-solving, team working and project management.

The study is divided into 4 one-week blocks of residential study at Oxford Brookes University and then you will return to Kier for an assignment-based valuation. 

Construction: Sir Robert McAlpine Sponsorship

Sir Robert McAlpine offer a sponsorship to students for degree courses in the built environment. Candidates who already have a strong academic base and who demonstrate this potential will be offered financial and technical support during their studies, as well as vacation/IT employment. Upon graduation,  sponsored students join the company and enrol on a professional development schemea leading to membership of a professional body.

They offer a bursary of £1,500 per annum for a first year student rising £100 per annum to a maximum of £1,800 for a fourth year student or above. You will also be offered a period of summer vacation employment of at least eight consecutive weeks.. If industrial training is part of a student’s degree course they will place the student for the required duration.

Construction: Tarmac Higher Apprenticeship

tarmacTarmac  is the UK’s leading sustainable construction solutions company, providing a diverse range of products and services to the construction sector. They have contributed to some of the UK’s biggest construction projects including Wembley Stadium, Blackpool Sea Defences, Birmingham New Street Station and the London Olympics.They offer a level 4+ higher apprenticeship, equivalent to a foundation degree. You need to have A Levels to apply. 

During the scheme you will attend college or University on a day or block release basis. You will work on site, under the guidance of a more senior colleague where you will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.

Additionally, you will be undergoing sufficient training during the programme and on successful completion you will gain:

  • University of Derby Higher National Diploma (HND) following 3 years employment
  • Qualification to Honours Degree after 5 years

Tarmac recruit over 50 apprenticeships each year. 

Construction: Vinci Sponsorship

vinciVinci offer sponsorship to successful students studying a recognised construction related degree course at leading universities. You will gain valuable work experience. With the added benefit of financial support, mentoring and networking opportunities.

Credit Rating: Experian Sponsored Degree Programme

experianExperian is a credit rating company. You will study for a BA (Hons) degree in Management & Leadership at Nottingham Trent University. In addition you will get to work at Experian, a Global FTSE 100 company.

What's involved?

Engineering/Technology/Project: Sellafield Degree Apprenticeships

Sellafield is a global centre for nuclear engineering management. They pioneered the harnessing of nuclear power to generate electricity for the country. Now they are set international standards in high-hazard reduction. They offer a range of degree apprenticeships which provide a balance of on-the-job training and experience whilst enabling you to also study for a degree without having to cover the cost of tuition. Engineering: Airbus Undergraduate Apprenticeship

airbusAirbus offers a three or four year undergraduate engineering degree, focussed on Aeronautical engineering, which combines vocational and academic training with on the job experience. You will attend one of their partner universities to study for your BEng honours Aerospace engineering degree. You need two A Levels grade B and above in Maths and grade C in Physics. GCSEs in Maths, English and Science. You will be paid c£15k per annum and your tuition fees will be paid for. The training Centres are located in Broughton (South Wales) or Filton (Bristol) as are the partnership colleges and universities.

Engineering: BBC Engineering Sponsored Degree

bbcBBC offers a sponsored engineering degree programme.  It is 3 years in length and you will be paid an annual salary during this period as well as all tuition fees    being met by the BBC. You will work towards a BEng (Hons) degree in Broadcast Engineering taught and accredited by a UK University.

 The BBC has been leading this sponsored degree to deliver the best Engineering Talent into the BBC as well as   across the UK Media Industry. They have worked  with Creative Skillset and UK universities such as Birmingham City University to develop this BEng degree   programme that has been designed by the industry. They  have a steering group chaired by the University of Salford and made up of the BBC, ITV, Babcock,    Atos, Arqiva, BT Media & Broadcast and International Association of Broadcast Manufacturers (IABM) – you will be working with the best in the industry. Jointly   the steering group members ensure the scheme will continually deliver future talent for the industry.

About the Scheme
The scheme is managed and run by the BBC Academy with a dedicated Programme Manager and Coordinator. As part of this innovative Apprenticeship, you will study for an honours bachelor’s degree, with tailored courses in:

  • Computer networks, networking and IP distribution
  • Electrics, electronics, power and transmission
  • Software programming, computer graphics and databases
  • Audio and video signals and systems, processing and encoding

This will give you a world-class foundation in the theory of broadcast engineering.

You will have a main BBC base, but you will spend periods away on study or work placements. Through a series of academic modules and industrial experience you will build the knowledge required a broadcast engineer. You’ll develop an excellent theoretical and practical understanding of operational and technical systems and equipment and their use in the fast-moving broadcasting industry. To start with you may be based in technical support teams, working on shift with teams responsible for fixing and maintaining studios and equipment. Engineering: Brunel University London Flood and Coastal FdSc

brunelBrunel University London offer a Flood and Coastal Engineering foundation degree which has been developed in partnership with the Environment Agency to address the growing need for capable flood engineers in the UK, and has funded places available.The course is led by Brunel and delivered in partnership with HR Wallingford, a world-renowned civil engineering and environmental hydraulics organisation.

Flooding affects millions worldwide. As a global issue that is strongly influenced by a changing climate, flood engineering offers an exciting and fulfilling career that combines engineering knowledge and skill with managing significant environmental impacts.

The FdSc is a two year, full time programme which will equip you with the essential skills, knowledge and understanding for a successful career in flood risk management.

This course offers a minimum of 20 sponsored places, covering university tuition fees and a training allowance whilst on placement. It also provides the academic qualification to support Engineering Technician (EngTech) status and is equivalent to Level 1 + 2 of a BSc. 

Key features include:

  • An innovative, industry-led academic programme.
  • At least 20 sponsored places available, covering full university tuition fees.
  • Two, paid, six-month placements at £1,000 per month (HMRC tax and NI exempt),
    in the Environment Agency or local authority flood teams, applying your academic knowledge and developing your career.

Successful completion of the FdSc can lead to the Level 3 BSc (Top Up) degree programme to gain your honours degree and support the academic status for Incorporated Engineer (IEng). Alternatively, you can gain some industry experience first and take the BSc top-up at a later time. The BSc is available as a two-year, part-time; or one-year, full-time programme. 

Once you’ve completed the BSc, you can progress to the Flood and Coastal Engineering MSc to gain the educational basis for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Engineering: Dyson Institute of Technology

dysonDyson offer an engineering degree at the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology. As an Undergraduate Engineer, you work alongside their Global Engineering team from day one. You are responsible for live projects, all while studying for your engineering degree from Warwick Manufacturing Group, the University of Warwick.

The course is four years long. The first two years will give you a strong foundation in engineering theory and practice before you specialise in years three and four. The engineering fundamentals that you learn in your studies will be put to practice through your role within Dyson's Global Engineering team.

The degree has been developed by Dyson engineers alongside academics at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), the University of Warwick. WMG have a long-standing reputation for bridging the gap between industry and academia through their strong links with global engineering companies. As a first year Undergraduate Engineer you will live on-site in modern accommodation pods. The campus is within easy driving distance of Bristol, Bath and Gloucester.

Your tuition fees will be paid by Dyson, and you will earn a salary from the start, meaning you could graduate debt-free.

The role

At the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, you’re an engineer from day one. You’ll learn about engineering through hands-on experience and work alongside a team of Dyson technology experts three days of the week. With Dyson’s expertise across motors, fluid dynamics, separation systems, energy storage, robotics, software and hair science, you’ll have the chance to work within a number of technical disciplines.

In your first year, you’ll complete three engineering rotations, focusing on mechanical, electronics hardware, and software. There are three more rotations in your second year, in different teams. This will help to consolidate your understanding of engineering fundamentals in practice.

For your final two years, they will give you the opportunity to state your preferred pathway. Dyson will place you in a team depending on your preferences, skills and the business need.

Entry requirements
Dyson is a high-pressure environment, so they are looking for engineers with dedication and huge potential. You will need at least AAB at A Level or equivalent, including an A grade in both Mathematics and at least one other Science, Technology or Engineering-related subject.

They are also looking for people who are passionate about engineering and technology, a creative problem solver, an excellent team-player and a great communicator.

Engineering: EDF Energy Engineering Degree Apprenticeships

edf energyEDF Energy are the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in Great Britain and the largest supplier to British businesses.

They offer the


  • Nuclear Engineer Degree Apprenticeship. Spend four years learning from experts, getting valuable experience all whilst studying for a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Honours). You’ll study your degree at the new National College for Nuclear, through Bridgwater & Taunton College situated in Somerset.
    • 102 UCAS points - ideally this will consist of at least 3 A levels (at grade C or above), including Maths and a Science subject or a relevant Level 3 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with a strong mathematical element
    • 4 year apprenticeship

Engineering: Institution of Engineering & Technology: Power Academy Scolarships

ietICT Power Academy offers engineering scholarships to undergraduates students in electrical and power engineering at leading UK universities. There are anumber of scholarships awarded each year to students at participating universities. Firms participating include Costain, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Scottish Powers, London Underground and National Grid. You will be privided annual sponsorship as well as annual work experience. 

Who can apply?

Students undertaking the relevant degree at either BEng or MEng level and are on course to achieve 2:1. You can be in any year of study when applying. If you are in your first year then your previous academic achievements will be taken into account.

Engineering: Leonardo degree apprenticeships

leonardoLeonardo is a world leader in helicopter manufacture, based in Yeovil, Somerset. They have opportunities in their electronics, defence and security systems area as well as in the Helicopter division. They offer both electrical and mechanical and business degree apprenticeships within the helicopter divsions. They are both 4 year schemes. Electrical amd mechanical apprentices will spend up to 9 months full time at college, then day release for the remainder of the scheme. Business apprentices undertake day release throughout the duration of the scheme.

Entry Requirements 

Applicants to the ‘Degree’ apprenticeship programme will need:

  • 240 UCAS points (pre 2017) or 96 (post 2017) or above at A-level standard or equivalent, to include maths and at least one further STEM based subject such as science or engineering.

As part of your programme, you'll earn a Master’s degree in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick, paid for by Rolls Royce. It will involve residential modules and written and work-based assignments, and you'll study part time alongside your work. It’s not an accelerated route to MEng, BEng or CEng, although they do expect you to complete your degree in around four or five years.

You'll also take on placements in different areas of the company, which typically last six months each. These will give you vital skills in areas like forecasting, production planning, supply chain design and management, as well as the management and development of manufacturing, assembly and repair processes and resources. Rolls Royce is based in Derby. 

All tuition fees as well as a salary will be paid by Rolls Royce. Application is directly with them not through UCAS.

As you train, you will take on various rotations across the business to build your practical experience. This could include regional or international. 

You’ll need to have achieved, or be expecting, a minimum of three A2 levels at Grade C or higher, or their equivalent, or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline.

Property: Savills Apprenticeship

Savills apprenticeship roles are available across the UK. The Programme lasts 5 years, and offers a permanent job contract.  Working four full days in the office with the fifth day spent at University you will gain a foundation degree (during years one and two) and then a full undergraduate degree in Surveying (years 3-5). Savills work with The Chartered Surveyors Training Trust to offer Property apprenticeship opportunities accross the business. 

Your university fees are paid by Savills and the starting salary is in the region of £15,000 per year.

Retail: Morrisons Sponsored Degree Apprenticeship

The Management Trainee Programme. Morrisons are partnering with Bradford University to develop a programme that will allow you to work, earn and learn while studying at University (part-time) towards a BSc (Hons) in Management and Business. If you are applying for their Head Office programme you will need to live within a commutable distance of Bradford. If applying to the Manufacturing scheme, you could be based at any of their production sites, so you need to be within a commutable distance of one of those (see above locations). If you’re not local to Bradford they will put you up in halls at the University when on site studying. Programmes exist in:

Whats required?
To join the scheme you must be at least 18 and fresh out of school or ideally will have some work experience... probably up to or around two years' worth, and perhaps related to manufacturing, retail, business or management. You must be able to commit to at least three years working and learning, plus five days a week (on shifts in Manufacturing) and attending university once every six weeks. You should have 260 UCAS points or equivalent and at least C grades including GCSE Maths and English.

R&D Refreshment: This offers you the opportunity to study for a BSc in Foods or Chemical Science and is 5 years in length. You will work at Unilever’s R&D site at Colworth to build and contribute to a number of brands including Lipton, PG Tips, Flora, Magnum, Cornetto and Dove. Over 600 scientists, technologists, legal professionals and support staff work at Colworth on a diverse range of activities.

Colworth is home to the Global Design Centre for Beverages and Ice Cream, Regional Deploy Centre for Beverages, Unilever Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre, Discover and Critical Functions Capabilities such as Information and Technology for R&D.

Technology: Accenture Digital Technology Degree Apprenticeship

They currently have apprenticeship opportunities in Client Delivery and Operations, where they deliver the solutions, software and application development that helps make business and communication easier for customers. 

You’ll be based in London or Warwick, take on a real job with salary to match, and get to work with ground-breaking technologies. By the end of your expert training, you’ll come away with a degree level qualification and all the experience you need to get your career off to a great start. 

They have two routes to the Degree Apprenticeship. The Trailblazer IT Apprenticeship, which does not require any academic requirements, lasts for 4 years and leads to a BSc. in Digital & Technology Solutions. And, the Degree Apprenticeship, which lasts for 3 years, is open to candidates with ‘A’ levels or equivalent, and results in a BSc. in Digital & Technology Solutions. During these apprenticeships, you’ll be kept busy with a mix of on-the-job experience as well as structured training and courses.

Technology: EY Degree Apprenticeship in Digital Innovation

Your Training

You will spend 20% of your time over 3 years studying towards a BSc Apprenticeship Degree in Digital Innovation.  You will study with other Apprentices from leading Tech businesses at ADA college, the National College of Digital Skills. You will then build on these skills in teams with EY clients in between your block release sessions. Over the 3 years you can expect to experience web-based learning, shadowing senior colleagues and team members, and training courses with our in-house experts.

Technology: Fujitsu Degree Apprenticeship Programme

fujitsuFujitsu are one of the worlds largest IT suppliers. They offer a degree apprenticeship programme where they will sponsor your studies as well as pay you. Your role would be based in the Fujitsu Basingstoke offices for the Defence and National Security account and will also involve you attending lectures at Winchester University to complete a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions degree over a 4 year period. You need 280 UCAS points and experience or an interest in IT. 

The degree programme runs for 4 years and will provide you an opportunity to attend lectures at Winchester University whilst carrying out a role in Fujitsu. Towards the end of this degree you will have a period of specialisation with a dissertation and project to complete at work linked to business requirements. Each module you study will match up to the business area within Fujitsu that you will be working in, ensuring you are receiving work-based learning that is relevant to your course.

Technology: Goldman Sachs Technology Apprenticeships

The four-year degree apprenticeship program offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of technology within financial services and the chance to obtain a full honours degree alongside valuable work experience at their Bournemouth technology hub.

Your degree will be delivered by a blend of virtual lectures alongside award-winning internal training. Coupled with the on-the-job learning, this will lead to your obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions.

Upon successful completion of the program, you could be offered a full-time position within the firm.

You’ll be part of a team from day one. Learning alongside industry experts you will develop skills and knowledge to help you as you start your career. You’ll have real responsibilities in a real working environment.

Technology: John Lewis IT Degree Apprenticeship

  is working with Queen Mary University London to deliver a level 6 IT Degree Apprenticeship.This four year programme offers you a permanent role on a structured programme combining ‘on the job’ work experience with studying for a full honours degree at a top London university. You will be studying towards a full BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree. 

The Programme

During the scheme, you will spend at least two days a week (term time only) at the Queen Mary University campus in Mile End, London.  The remaining three days of the week will be spent working in one of the busy IT teams within the John Lewis head office in Victoria, central London.

You will be working in one of the following areas:

  • IT Application Operations
  • IT Infrastructure Operations
  • Technical Design & Development Practice
  • Testing & Environment Practice

What qualifications are required?

They are looking for a high achieving A’ Level (or equivalent) student, keen to follow a career in IT and predicted to achieve a minimum of 320 UCAS points in your A’ Levels (eg. A,B,B or equivalent not including General Studies).

Technology: Severn Trent Digital Information Systems Degree Apprenticeship

severn trentSevern Trent offer a number of apprenticeships, one of which is the Digital Information Systems degree apprenticeship. 

This is a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programme.

Your rotation placements on the scheme focus on developing the key skills and experience that you’ll require to be a key member of the Information Systems teams here. Either through working in service delivery teams, app development and support teams or key projects. You’ll combine on-the-job learning with formal, nationally recognised development training modules, which includes a tailored two-week induction. This is delivered by BPP and is a 4 year programme. 

What you'll be doing

You’ll get exposure to different teams across the business as you work on a combination of big budget transformation programmes and fast-moving, agile delivery projects. These could include anything from working with Developers and Analysts in the App Squad to deliver applications for colleagues’ smart devices, to developing new systems that allow identification and prevention of network failures.

The following opportunities are available:

  • BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree at Winchester University:They have two programmes; one that is technical, designed for those who want to pursue an IT/Computing career and another with a business focus for those that are interested in Business Management and Project Management careers.This course will take three years to complete spending one day a week studying in Winchester and the other four developing your career at CGI based in CGI’s Reading or Leatherhead offices. You could work in everything from Space and Defence to Bid Management, Marketing, Programming, Cyber-Security and Project Management.
  • BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions degree at Aston University: This course will take four and a half years to complete. The Aston Programme is sponsored by the Energy, Utilities and Telecoms (EUT) area of the business and you could be based from Birmingham, Leatherhead, London and Reading offices.
  • BSc (Hons) Software Development Graduate Level Apprenticeship - Glasgow Caledonian University. You will study one day a week at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), whilst spending the other four days a week developing your career on real-life projects at CGI. Your role will be to deliver digital engineering capability and encompass a rotation programme which will allow you to learn different programming languages and try new roles. You could be involved in: 
    • Resolving IT issues
    • Programming
    • Software testing
    • learning how software is designed and developed 
  • BSc (Hons) IT Management for Business (ITMB) -Graduate Level Apprenticeship- Edinburgh Napier University:You will study one day a week at Edinburgh Napier University, whilst spending the other four days a week developing your career on real-life projects at CGI.This course will take four years to complete. You’ll be proving yourself from day one – solving problems, taking responsibility, making decisions, working on classified mission-critical projects.

Entry Requirements for Winchester and Aston degrees

  • To have or be predicated to achieve at least 120 UCAS points across three A-Levels or equivalent BTECs at grade C or above (excluding General Studies) gained in the same academic year (or equivalent) or
  • a completed Advanced IT Apprenticeship.
  • Also a minimum of five A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent), including English, Maths and Science.
  • For the IT focused programmes, your A-Levels (or equivalent e.g. Scottish Nationals, BTEC etc) should include an IT related subject, unless you can show strong technical (programming/development) ability through work experience or extra-curricular activities.

Entry Requirements for the scottish degrees:

  • The preferred requirement is 4 Highers at Grade B or above including 1 in Maths, Physics or Computing (equivalent qualifications are accepted) unless you can show strong technical (programming/development) ability through work experience or extra-curricular activities.
  • At least 7 Scottish National 5 at grade 1-3 including English or Maths (equivalent qualifications are accepted)
